Fall Protective Style BOX BRAIDS

Howdy peoples! Since it’s fall and I’ve expressed my frustration with constantly dealing with my hair this past summer I decided this would be a great time to get my hair braided.

Now mind you this is the first time that I’ve had my hair braided since middle school LOL.  I searched online and once I found some inspiration, I went to my cousin’s wife Tifu at Sparkle Sister Braids and had her braid my hair.

The braids took about 5 hours to install and although they are tight, and take some getting used to I LOVE the end result. It’s low maintenance and in the morning it takes no time to get ready. In order to change the pattern at the ends of the hair I can dip them in hot water and use perm rod rollers to get curls, braid them for a crinkly effect, or keep them straight. I hope to keep them in for at least the month of November but I’m also reminding myself that I’ve never kept the same hairstyle for more than two weeks lol so we’ll see.

While my hair is braided its important that I continue to take care of my hair by keeping my scalp and hair moisturized.

I found the following helpful tips from Black Women Beauty Central:

  • Use braid spray and light oils daily to keep them moist and prevent an itchy scalp.
  • Don’t wear super tight braids. Traction alopecia is a serious problem and can destroy your hairline.
  • Wash your hair with a stocking cap over it to prevent fuzziness.
  • Sleep with a silk or satin scarf tied around your braids at night to keep them smooth, frizz and lint free.                                                                                                           What are you doing with your hair this fall?

~XOXO~

  1. Thanks for sharing. You’re in the DC area right? I would like to get my hair braided in the future. Would you mind sharing your spot? I am from NY but haven’t been happy anywhere out here yet.
